TGIFF Another Quilt Another Label

This week I'm getting ready for the Signature Line "Under the Sea" I'm representing from Island Batik. This beautiful fabric collection is matching my soft, cool attitude about the onset of winter.

I recently moved my business and family to the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon and the rainy season is in full swing! After 19 years in Arizona, we're loving it and those lovely cool colors all around us are enchanting.

As usual, I'm a little behind on finishing labels, but with Bumbershoots getting ready to ship for its first trunk show in a few weeks, it's time for a label and a little final prep for her debut.

This time, I'm working on a fused label with some hand stitching to have fun with the outline of the image. I'm using my Creative Label Making Worksheet (a free download on my website).

I'm setting up with my Zig Writer (washable archival marker) to get the details of this quilt on a label and get ready to fuse.

I chose a lighter fabric for the top of the umbrella along with a bright green handle so it would stand out on the dark backing material. The fusible paper was a great way to set up some straight lines to keep my writing neat with the aid of my light box.

To see how I set up my reminders and kept notes with my worksheet, as well as the use of my Oliso M3Pro for fusing, watch this new video I'm adding to my Creative Label making Playlist today.

I'm happy to have this latest beauty finished and ready to head off to the quilt shop right here in Oregon that scheduled it for a trunk show this December! Be sure to check back on my site right after Thanksgiving to find the Bumbershoots pattern and get started on your own gorgeous umbrellas!

And Now for the extra fun part of TGIFF, the part where you show us all what you're finishing this Friday! Please include a link or button to tgiffriday.blogspot.com in your post so your visitors can see everyone's finishes too and be sure to check out the links of other participants this week! I really enjoyed reading this post! It’s so relatable how each quilt tells a story and how adding a label gives that final personal touch—it’s like signing your name at the end of a heartfelt letter. Your process reminds me that creativity often lies in the smallest details, especially in the care we take to finish something beautifully. I also love how you reflected on the meaning behind every stitch; it shows how quilting is more than just fabric and thread—it’s memory, art, and emotion stitched together. In school, we were always taught to use conclusion sentence starters to neatly wrap up our thoughts; I feel your quilt labels do exactly that, giving every project a thoughtful and complete ending.…

This was a really cozy and down‑to‑earth post, and I liked how it talks about another quilt and another label in a way that feels like you’re just chatting with someone who truly enjoys patchwork rather than reading a long, formal explanation. The way you share your process and thoughts from picking fabrics to stitching details makes the creative work feel more personal and real, especially for people who also enjoy quilting or are curious about it. Even the small frustrations and little joys come through in a way that feels familiar to anyone who’s ever tried to make something by hand, which makes the whole story feel more like a shared experience rather than a finished product showcase.

Love this kind of creative wrap-up finishing a quilt and adding the label always feels like signing your work. The font choice really sets the mood, just like fabric and stitching. I went down a similar rabbit hole recently while playing with Instagram name fonts and realized how much personality typography adds. If anyone enjoys experimenting with styles and lettering, this guide had some fun ideas: https://instanamesstyle.com/instagram-name-font-style-for-boy/
